The Terry Gallagher Family Story
Thirteen years ago, our family was saddled with the news that one of our own was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Since that day, two more immediate family members have been diagnosed. This news, and a family legacy of personal and corporate philanthropy, has sparked a commitment to JDRF that has lasted more than a decade, and resulted in more than $500,000 raised.
Colin, Terry’s son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was just 13. In addition Emelia, Kathleen’s daughter, and our cousin Brittany also have been diagnosed with this life changing disease. The lives of our family have been changed forever – insulin, injections and worry are now a part of their and our daily lives. They are not alone -- everyday in the U.S., more than 80 children and adults are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D). JDRF is the primary advocate and leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research worldwide, and its mission is to treat, prevent and ultimately find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its devastating complications through the support of research.
On Saturday April 28th, 2012, our family will be presented with the “Commitment to the Dream” Award by the Rocky Mountain Chapter of JDRF at their Dream Gala in Denver. The annual Dream Gala is an exciting and inspirational evening, with proceeds going to fund a cure for T1D.
Our family business has been -- and is -- an avid supporter of JDRF, and we are more than honored to be recognized with this prestigious award. We have committed our time and resources to this effort, and we ask you to join us in our quest to conquer this disease and change the lives of millions – like Colin, Emelia and Brittany – who suffer every day.
We would encourage you to join us in our fight. Smoker Friendly, Gasamat and our family have committed to a $100,000 “Fund a Cure” donation. With a generous donation to JDRF at a level that suits your budget you can help us match our donation -- it’s as easy as pushing the donate button, and credit cards are accepted.
Thank you in advance for your support of JDRF, and for bringing us hope of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
